BUS 036 Investment and Financial Markets

This unit is concerned with the choice and evaluation of investment strategies and modern portfolio management, with a basic understanding of the structure of equity, bond and derivative markets.

Performance Requirements :

1. Critically discuss the role of the financial system in today’s economy
2. Explain how markets for equities, bonds and derivatives function, and how these instruments are traded.
3. Distinguish between the role of capital markets in raising finance for firms and the role of derivative markets in risk management.
4. Critically evaluate issues related to portfolio construction, valuation and risk management.
